First of all, the magic became increasingly confusing and strange (probably because I know nothing about magic in books). I have to admit that as the book went on, I found myself somewhat turned off by two things. Portions of what I read even reminded me of the old TV show "Bewitched." In doing that, I was able to enjoy some more of this book. I liked the characters-Daniel and Lily-so I chose to treat this book as a fantasy and a fairy tale. I honestly had no idea what to expect, but when magic first showed itself in the story, I was somewhat nonplussed. I found myself somewhat intrigued from the beginning of this futuristic romance. So take any comments or criticisms with that in mind. First of all, this book is out of my comfort zone, and I think it is important to challenge myself to do this once in a while.

The second most important thing that you need to know about Brenna is that she eschews anything feminine. And swords (no, that's not a sexual pun). She's unenthusiastic about the marriage but is willing to go through with it for the sake of honor. The heroine, Brenna, is a Celt, pledged to a Viking by her father. Since I like historical bodice rippers, I thought I'd start with FIRES OF WINTER.įIRES is a Medieval Viking romance. I bought three of her books in three different genres - Medieval, Regency, and futuristic romance - to get a broad picture of her writing style. I intended to rectify that.įIRES OF WINTER is currently $1.99 on Amazon, as are some of the other first books in some of her other series, DEFY NOT THE HEART and WARRIOR'S WOMAN. I have a love-hate relationship with Woodiwiss's books - sometimes they're on on point, sometimes they miss the point - but I'd never actually read anything by Lindsey. These two authors might not be the best writers in the genre, but they are prime examples of the most lasting and the most successful. If you peruse the bodice ripper lists on Goodreads, you will consistently see two names near the very top the list: Kathleen E. The book has been published in 12 languages and has received numerous awards, including acknowledgment as best biography of the prophet in English at the National Seerate Conference in Islamabad. Book Muhammad: His Life Based on the Earliest. It represents the final updates made to the text before the author’s death in 2005. Martin Lings’ biography of Muhammad – Muhammad his Life Based on the Earliest Sources, is an internationally acclaimed, comprehensive, and authoritative account of the life of the prophet. This one takes place in the 1980’s with an artist name Simon Morley, who goes by Si. Sadly Finney died in 1995 shortly after the completion of From Time to Time. I am not sure I have ever said this but you may want to read the sequel rather than the original. It is also worth mentioning that in 1995 Finney wrote a sequel to Time and Again called From Time to Time, which I read some of the plot and that book seems so much more interesting. I can remember watching Invasion of the Body Snatchers and it scared the hell out of me and was also super weird but still cool. Finney has had quite a long career but these are definitely his most famous works. He is most well-known for this novel, Time and Again, and The body Snatchers which was made and remade into the famous movie. Jack Finney was born and live in Milwaukee Wisconsin, and later attended Knox College in Illinois. Also, and certainly a favorite topic of mine, this book is about time travel, so there was no way I was going to pass this one up. It has gotten some great reviews on Amazon, and as you know that is basically how I make my reading selections. But it has been on my list of books to read for a while. I am not sure how or when I came across this one. until she finds a new reason to question her sanity and all she holds dear. Slowly, she begins to feel more "normal" than she ever has as part of the popular crowd. Second-guessing every move, thought, and word makes daily life a struggle, and it doesn't help that her lifelong friends will turn toxic at the first sign of a wrong outfit, wrong lunch, or wrong crush. But hidden beneath the straightened hair and expertly applied makeup is a secret that her friends would never understand: Sam has Purely-Obsessional OCD and is consumed by a stream of dark thoughts and worries that she can't turn off. Samantha McAllister looks just like the rest of the popular girls in her junior class. If you could read my mind, you wouldn't be smiling. A film version of "Da" starring Martin Sheen appeared in 1988. Together they reflect on the key moments of compassion and disconnection in their parting lives. Home Before Night covers Jack Keyes Byrne (Hugh Leonard)s early life and adulthood to the point when he makes the decision to leave a steady job in the civil. The play, drawing on his own upbringing by adoptive parents, explores a writer returning home to Ireland upon his adoptive father's death - and finding himself caught in bittersweet dialogue with his ghost, who refuses to leave him. Leonard's talents reached an international stage when his play "Da" made a triumphant two-year run on Broadway in 1977-78. He wrote 16 plays specifically for the Dublin Theatre Festival, starting with "A Walk on the Water" in 1960, and served as the festival's program director from 1978 to 1980. In the 1960s, Leonard became Ireland's most accomplished adapter of classic works and short stories to the Irish stage and screen, and a driving force in the promotion of modern Irish stagecraft. He quit his day job in 1957 after the Abbey Theatre triumph of his first play, "The Birthday Party," the year before. He was born John Keyes Byrne, but took on the pen name Hugh Leonard in the arch-conservative Catholic Ireland of the 1950s to hide from his Irish civil service employers his double-life as an aspiring, outspoken writer. It is about the impossible choices he has to make, and the fateful consequences he is forced to live with. Ultimately, I felt like Alex really stole the show, so I'm definitely going to go back and read the first book which he is the hero of. I didn't expect this book to have so much humour in it, so I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of times this book made me laugh. Alex was the perfect brother in law - I loved how he threatened to shoot anyone that hurt Daphne. I loved the Lancaster family and how they supported Daphne every step of the way. The main characters in this story were quite young and innocent (h was 18, hero was 24), so it was really cute seeing them navigate their feelings. I felt sorry for his situation but I really admired his loyalty to his family. I can't remember the last time I read a regency romance where the hero wasn't a scoundrel or rake, so this was a breath of fresh air. I found the hero, James Tilburn, to be an interesting character. It was great to see her blossom, and choose to be brave even when she feared social situations. Wallflower/plain Jane heroines will forever have my heart. Romancing Daphne was an incredibly sweet regency romance that made my teeth ache! First of all, thank you so much to chaity for recommending me this book! I am very rarely in the mood for an HR, so this recommendation came at a perfect time. The compound effect of the book's narrative vitality and attention to human detail is terrific in all the meanings of the word - terrifying, extraordinary, highly admirable. Miller'sMasters of the Airis a stunning achievement. Boyne, former director, National Air and Space Museum, "Donald L. Miller knits together the big events of the bombing campaign with illuminating individual human stories of the heroes who lived and died over Germany." - Walter J. ""Masters of the Air" is a fresh new account of the incredible rise of the American air force from young men learning their trade on the job in combat to an irresistible force that swept the vaunted Luftwaffe from the skies.
